Summer is coming to an end and our 2024 seasons have wrapped up with an excellent semi-final performance on the women’s side and a league and playoff double championship on the men’s side.
Our players have now dispersed to their winter habitats, to college teams around Canada and the US, to amateur leagues here in BC and a few off to play professional. College and University seasons are beginning, as are the local amateur seasons. Here’s a run down of where our 2024 team members will be spending their autumns
Pro players
In July season, Devin O’Hea signed at Pacific FC where he has had a few starts this month in the Canadian Premier League. Albert Kang headed overseas and signed with HNK Tomislav in the Bosnian third division.
US Colleges
Devon Kavanagh scored for the North Dakota State Bison on August 15, her first college goal as she starts her third season at NDSU.
Sofia Faremo will play her senior year at Simon Fraser University alongside 2022-23 Rover Isabella Muzzolini. Jenna Baxter is on the coaching staff for that team.
Nik White, who was a standout at Harvard over the past three seasons has transferred to Stanford where he is doing a master’s degree and playing his last year of college eligibility. He scored a trademark header in his appearance in the pre-season.
Dominic de Paoli, Koji Poon, Kian Proctor and Michael Hennessy will all be playing at Simon Fraser University this fall. We have always had Rovers players from SFU including the Polisi brothers, Ali Zohar, Devin O’Hea, Justyn Sandhu and others over the years. Koji and Michael return to SFU. Kian has transferred from the University of the Fraser Valley and Dominic is entering his first year. SFU plays in the Great Northern Athletic Conference of the NCAA Div. II
Canadian Universities and Colleges
Megan Sun, Nina Louis, Kaitlan Cerny and Alyssa Scott will all play their trades at University of BC Okanagan in Kelowna this fall. On the men’s team, Tyson Gugushe will start his second season with the Heat.
Anthony Vega and 2022 Rover Jackson Cowx will co-captain the University of the Fraser Valley Cascades this season.
Tilly James plays her last season at Trinity Western.
The Tome siblings, Josh Tome on the men’s side and Vanessa Tome on the women’s side return to UBC Thunderbirds both with a good chance to win silverware.
Paris Sidhu and Chloe Moran, both TSS Academy players will play at the University of Manitoba for the fourth seasons.
Two of our club’s goal keepers return to Kingston Ontario for the fall. Kirstin Tynan will play her last season at Queen’s University where she has had a stand out career for the Gaels alongside 2023 Rover Lauren Ebel. Connor Adams will play his third year for the men’s team.
Maddy Mah has moved to Ontario and will play alongside 2022 Rover Cassie Chan at the University of Toronto. Elsewhere in Ontario Megan Soo returns to McMaster for her fourth year.
Further east, Sasha Merk at McGillis the only Rover playing in Quebec alongside Demi Levan who played a game for us last year. In the Maritimes Chris Schmit returns to the University of New Brunswick with 2022 Rover Liam McGowan. Niah Kuehne will play at Dalhousie this year and Claudia Mazzei starts her second year at the University of PEI.
Other teams
Our women’s team will keep many players together in both our TSS Rovers Premier team and the TSS Rovers Selects this winter. Both teams will play in the topflight of the Metro Women’s Soccer League. This season you will see Claire Ye, Katie Bishop, Mae Hobensheild, Shayla Chorney, Taylor Nekic, Katie Chan, Ruby Chevalier, Kyara Armenta, Jenieve Musico, Maya Alibudbud and Amanda Scott suiting up in Rovers colours. They are often joined by returning college players in the spring.
On the men’s side several Rovers play during the fall and winter in local amateur leagues. Erik Edwardson, Fugo Segawa, Connor MacMillan, Danylo Smychenko, Gabe Escobar, Ivan Mejia and Justyn Sandhu will join BB5 in the Vancouver Metro Soccer League for the fall.
