The North American University seasons are in full flight and a bunch of our Rovers are getting to it.

Players in the NCAA

Up at SFU, Sofia Faremo‘s Red Leafs are 4-0 in their non-conference match ups and have only conceded one goal.  Next weekend they begin their defense of the Great Northern Athletic Conference title.  Sofia has played 45 minutes to date for the team, but 2022-23 Rover isabella Muzzolini has 2 goals and an assist so far this season. On the men’s side at SFU, the first four inter-conference games have yielded 1 win a draw and two losses. Canadian University players

From west to east, we have 2024 TSS Rovers playing from coast to coast in USPORTS.  Here’s how they are shaping up.

Up at UBC, the women’s Thunderbirds are off to another roaring start going 5-0 and ony conciding 2 goals, both in a 3-2 victory of the UBCO Heat. Rovers featured prominantly in that game with Vanessa Tome scoring a brace for UBC and Alyssa Scott scoring one for UBCO.  Vanessa has three goals from five shots this year, so far her highest tally in her five years at UBC.  Her bropther Josh Tome has made one appearnce for the men’s team who are undefeated but struggling to convert tdraws to wins.

Up in Kelowna, the UBCO Heat are 3-4-1 and have acquitted themselves well against powerhouses UBC and Trinity western.  Alyssa Scott has 2 goals and is a regular midefiled starter.  Nina Louis has nailed down a starting position has scored once so far and Megan Sun has made 3 appearances in the midfield.  Newcomer Katelyn Cerny, who was one of our young players to watch this season at TSS Rovers has made five apperarances in her first year and put four shots on target.

Out in the Valley, the UFV Cascades have had a mixed start to the seasn but a 4-2-2 record is nothing to sniff at.  Two TSS Rovers have been made captains of that team and Anthony Vega has started all six games, while 2023 Rovers backup keep Jackson Cowx, the other captain, has started 8 games and posted 3 clean sheets.

Tilly James who impressed on the backline with Rovers this season has started 6 games for Trinity Western including all four of their Canada West match ups.  After some tough losses in the preseason, TWU are 4-0-2 to start the Canada West season and sit thrid behind UVic and UBC.

In the Prarie Division, two Rovers are playing at the University of Manitoba. Paris Sidhu has a goal in three appearances for the Bison while Chloe Morin has started three matches in the midfield.

Eastward, at the University of Toronto, Maddy Mah is making her mark with four starts in five appearances and a hit crossbar, while Cassie Chan has started two games in the backline. U of T played a Rovers derby last weekend against Kirstin Tynan’s Queen’s University, losing 3-0. Kirstin continues her strong form in net for the Gaels, having only lost one game to rivals University of Ottawa. Kirstin, who is captaining the team, has four clean sheets and has only coneded twice this season.

The men’s team at Queens is the opposite and have had a horrible start. They have yet to win in five games, although Connor Adams played the full 90 in a 0-0 draw with Laurentian.

At McMaster, Megan Soo has made three appearances for the undefeated Maurauders. In Quebec, Sasha Merk has made one appearance for McGill this season.

Moving to the Atlantic, at Dalhousie, Niah Kuehne has made three appearances for Dalhousie all off the bench in her first year. Claudia Mazzei has played five games for UPEI with a record of 1-3-2.

In New Brunswick, Chris Schmit is a regular starter for UNB who are having a tough start with 1 win in seven games.
